There is a great deal of confusion about the recent immigration reform proposal. In response, the White House issued a press release on May 18, 2007 to help clarify specific "myths" vs. "facts" concerning the proposed legislation. The release, in part, explains that the proposal does not simply provide amnesty to illegal workers, as there are fines and procedures that must be followed in order to attain Z Visas . In addition, the proposal implements rigid border control, distinguishing it from the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act. The Senate has decided to wait until after Memorial Day to resume debate on the proposal.
