Americans continue to struggle as medical and prescription costs continue to rise. The United States government projects that in less than a decade, we will spend 20% of our annual income on health care. While the presidential candidates continue to explain how they plan to fix our broken health care system, the odds of any significant changes occurring soon are slim. Meanwhile, we are left to figure out how we can reduce these costs while continuing to maintain medical quality. Fortunately, there are still options available to make this financial burden less painful.

#1: Did you know you can get prescription drugs at a big discount? Both Wal-Mart and Target have expanded their drug discount programs. You can now get a 90-day supply of many medications for as low as $4.00.

#2: Don’t hesitate to ask for FREE DRUGS. Yes that’s right… ask for free samples. Doctors’ offices are usually filled with free samples from pharmaceutical companies and they will gladly hand them over if you just ask.

#3: Use generic drugs- you can save as much as 52% by using generic drug over a brand name. These drugs might look different because of certain inactive ingredients but keep in mind that the FDA makes it tough to become a generic drug in America, so why pay more for a brand name?

#4: Get free care at clinical trials - although there is no guarantee these experimental treatments will work, but it will certainly save you money.

Remember, it is important to be an advocate for yourself. We only live once!
