Senate Revives Immigration Bill

While democrats and republicans remain far apart with respect to how much border patrol security is needed and how much emphasis should be placed on family ties in any type of merit-based system,

the U.S. Senate has voted to revive broad legislation to overhaul the nation's immigration system, after the measure was blocked by opponents earlier this month.

The Senate voted 64-35 to revive the bill. Sixty votes were required to revive the immigration bill. Another test vote, following some changes in the bill's provision is scheduled for Thursday, June 28, 2007.
