Department of Veterans Affairs doctors were told they should avoid diagnosing veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder as cost-cutting measure, according to an internal VA e-mail released Thursday. The e-mail, which was distributed by the groups Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a congressional watchdog group, and VoteVets.org, suggested a diagnosis of Adjustment Disorder would entail less compensation. One VA official called the suggestions of the unidentified sender "inappropriate" and stated that the agency was committed to providing all earned benefits.
